For better or worse I do appreciate feedback. ALWAYS.
The reasons why really got driven home last night and today. I got an e-mail from one of the bloggers who agreed to review "Dying Embers" for me. She pointed out a problem with the formatting and sent a picture. After nearly two hours of frustrating formatting and searching the internet I discovered the answer was a 30 second fix that involved clicking a few buttons. At that point I had to get to bed so re-sending all the files had to wait until the next day. Now that is done and I can send out new requests with the better format.

There are already two reviews, THANK YOU! You know who you are. The more reviews the better. If anyone else wants to rate and review go ahead and please do be honest. Science has spoken and Amazon reviews with a few negative hits convince people that the reviewers are being honest about the book. And yes there are scientists who study that sort of thing. At no less an institution than Yale, at that.
Getting the Word Out
So as part of the deal with the publisher they handle the printing and the shipping and I do the marketing. Part of that is this website and blog, part of that will be getting reviews from independent book reviewers, and a large part will be contacting radio shows and newspapers. So now I have a list of newspapers in every state in the US and I really should get a list of Canadian newspapers to now that I think of it. I will be trying to get the larger papers to do reviews of my work and the smaller papers to carry the human interest story I will make about it.
Then there are the radio shows. Hmmm, I wonder if I could get an interview on NPR
First Round of Editing!
Well, the official first round of editing. Certain people have already looked over the story and given me feedback. (You know who you are.) ;)
I have just gotten the first eight chapter of "Dying Embers" back from my mysterious editor. The pro knows his stuff for sure! All the little punctuation is in all the right places and now I have to get it back to him. This involves learning "Tracking changes" and other such stuff. Can't be any harder than tracking wildlife right?
The timing has aligned very well for this as I am heading up to my father's cabin at Mt. Rainier. High speed internet and nothing else for a hundred miles around.
So off
Storms and Concussions
So today began with a pile of good intentions to tackle the pile of piles in the garage. I was making decent headway on that task when a very sturdy walking cane, pretty sure it belonged to a ninja, jumped out of the sky and attacked the back of my head at a rather critical juncture of two skull plates. So whee! Is concussion time again! Break out the anti-inflammatories and analgesics and try to get some bed rest.
Except for the part where I was up and around with all those good intentions? I was preparing the farm for that lovely windstorm that is moving up the coast...
Hopefully it will all hold.
Now there goes the sun behind the clo

Have you heard of a program called Calibre? You can upload your .rtf file and then convert it into a number of different formats (for Kindle and otherwise). I prefer .azw3 files for Kindle, because you can set them up to include a table of contents with hyperlinks to each chapter Best of all, it's completely free to download! You can add covers/artwork too, which is always nice
